New Southern Law

I've been thinking about trying to pass a new law declaring that if you are from outside the Southern U.S. you are not allowed to speak about it or it's people in degrading ways. I've live my entire life in the south and have laughed at all the southern jokes no matter who they were coming from and have told some myself too. They were always funny to me, until I realized that when southerners are telling or laughing at these jokes it was all for fun but when northerners do the same they are making derogatory and calumniatory statements designed to hurt and belittle us.

It's just like African-Americans can call each other names but people from other races cannot. It's also similar to the Pollock jokes that everyone told constantly 10 to 15 years. At that point I had no idea what Pollocks were. Now that I know, I still can't figure out why we were making jokes about them. We didn't know them, at least I didn't, but we still made jokes about how stupid they were.

How many times have you heard an incest joke that didn't involve a southern state? Not many. In fact, the U.S. state with the highest incident of incest is one of the northern most continental U.S. states, look it up. Would you make fun of that state? Probably not. Why? Because you have been hearing jokes about the south all of your life and it wouldn't make sense to tell a joke like that any other way. What about sex with farm animal jokes? Honestly, the only instances of beastiality that I have heard of in the news has come from just north of the U.S. over the border. That wouldn't be funny though, so they include a southern state to make it more laughable. Just like movies based in the south require stereotyping, it's an unwritten law apparently. I could give examples all day long to prove my point but I'm sure you get the idea.

I can provide an arsenal of northern cut-downs but honestly what's the point? By classifying someone as being everyone from a particular region for whatever reason, tells a lot about you and your intelligence level. When someone tells these denigrative jokes, people who do not know any better actually beleive them. Are you one of those people?

This slander has been eating at my brain for a couple of years now. It makes me thoroughly angry and has caused me mental anguish and distress. I think that people should be held accountable for their actions including malign comments and jokes.
